Forested Sanctuary

In a very high, secluded forest is a neighborhood called Mirrormont. Developed 62 years ago on the side of Tiger Mountain. It’s terrain a challenge, but beckons to those that find peace there. This is where our project begins.

The homeowner settled into well-built, Lindal like home. The landscape development had been limited only to the driveway, a walkway to the front door, a detached garage, woodshed and a parking area. The site is heavily wooded & extremely steep.  Prior to our engagement, the homeowner had a landscaper propose a multi-level terrace with walls cutting deeply into the slope.

The plan was to create a series of patios without a specific purpose of use. In design, the golden rule of thumb is “form follows function.” Upon hiring their landscape architect, a master plan was developed to create a large, level sun patio for entertaining and outdoor cooking. The deep cut into the slope was eliminated and replaced with walled planters staggered above the sun patio.

A sturdy staircase through the veggie garden area replaced a DYI paver staircase. To connect the sun satio down to the lower lawn and look-out patio a traversing walkway and terraced veggie gardens was created. Evergreen plantings were added to the lawns edge to finish the space. The final space to be renovated was adjacent to the basement that was converted to a MIL. A patio and deck stepped up to it’s covered entrance. To connect to the MIL to the backyard, an adjacent stone staircase and path leads to the look-out patio and lawn.
